Situation
The client wanted a nice and beautiful swimming pool & spa area. The substrate was old cement sand screed with cracks
and uneven level surface. Renovation would like to extend the life time of swimming pool & spa.

Solution
To prepare new even substrate for tile & stone application, installers used ARDEX B55 leveling mortar.
ARDEX WPM 300 acts as water based primer that creates a positive bond between substrates and water-based
coatings. It has superior water resistance and prevents efflorescence while withstanding hydrostatic pressure.
In addition, it provides the excellent adhesion to most substrate, including damp surfaces and freshly laid concrete,
and it can be used as a one coat primer for other applied finish like ARDEX waterproofing membrane and
tiling adhesive. ARDEX WPM 300 is also safe for potable drinking water, removing risk of water contamination from
materials in the many resort pool areas.
ARDEX WPM 006 Waterproofing Membrane was applied. Recognized as excellent elongation & breathable,
it can compensate for some slight movement in the substrate. Two layers of ARDEX WPM 006 coating offered the
seamless surface.
To complete the job, ARDEX X26 High Performance Tile Adhesive was selected for its strong adhesion
and slip resistance to heavy tiles and stone by addiing special polymer. Its good flexibility was
particularly suitable for yielding artificial stone and non- moisture sensitive natural stones.

JW Marriott Hotel

Situation
Asia’s Largest JW Marriott Hotel set within Galaxy Macau Phase II, one of the most spectacular entertainment &
leisure destination. Podium area is where the intermediate area that customers access to hotel. As a access point,
it required a flat and durable surface that would handle a large amount of foot traffic.

Solution
A combination of ARDEX B55 leveling mortar and ARDEX E30 Mortar Additive enhances bonding strength which
avoids the voids on floor. Furthermore, ARDEX E30 is designed to improve compressive strength and flexural strength
to achieve high flexibility.
ARDEX Reinforcement Mesh, an alkali-resistant fibre mesh made from woven glass fibre fabric, was applied between
the layers of ARDEX WPM 006 Warerproofing membrane to Increase the tensile strength and modulus of elasticity
with good anti-fungal properties. This mesh imparts better sound insulation and fire resistant properties which is very
suitable to seperate noise created.
ARDEX X77 MICROTEC Flexible Adhesive, MICROTEC fibre reinforced, is ideal for all types of tiles especially porcelain,
fully vitrified tiles, mosaics and terrazzo. The enhanced performance of ARDEX X77 has considerably longer
open time, even under site conditions, than other adhesives currently classified as having extended open time.
In addition, the enhanced slump resistant properties helps tiles fixation with minimum slip if the heavy tiles are applied.

Wynn Palace

Situaion

Main contractor requested a quick dry, quick cure and quick set materials for patching up carpark flooring and level up the wall area.

Solution

ARDEX WPM 300 water based epoxy working as a primer which can withstand rising damp and enhance the bonding. ARDURAPID formulation  in both ARDEX A45 and ARDEX A46 allowing fast-track installation work.

ARDEX B12 provides a find smooth finish over both concrete and render. Thickness from feather edge to over 10mm. Quick setting allows further finishing materials to be applied on the top in days.

Wynn Palace

Situation

The client would like to have a heavy duty, durable up to 20 years and a tailor-made yellow waterproofing material  on the roof top.

Challenges

Wynn has high requirements on building materials to ensure excellent building quality. Besides performance, the color of the roof waterproofing layer has also been specified to match with the gold and champagne color tone of the entire building.

Solution

ARDEX Sheltercoat system has been selected to cope with these requirements.

The bottom layer of ARDEX WPM300 epoxy primer provided damp proof ability for the roof. Second layer of ARDEX Sheltercoat liquid applied membrane with ARDEX Reinforcement was the key component, forming an elastic and strong waterproofing body coat. Finally, a tailor made yellowish ARDEX Shelter-Top is applied as the top layer to provide UV protection to the system.

The entire system has excellent waterproofing ability, while its PU characteristics further enhanced its abrasion and chemical corrosion resistance.

Kwai Tsing Theatre

Situation

The opening of Kwai Tsing Theatre was in November 1999. The Theatre’s 899-seat Auditorium is equipped to cater for all types of performances. Over the past fifteen years, the Theatre has provided quality support to numerous local and visiting stage productions to the spectacular enjoyment of its audience. In order to enhance and upgrade the waterproofing ability of the 8500m2 roof, Ardex waterproofing system was specified to meet with the high quality requirements, and to reduce the total construction time to minimize impact to the public.

Challenges

The contract period was short to minimize the impact to the public.

The theatre was close to residential area, pollution and noise control were very important.

Solution

ARDEX Sheltercoat system was used to address these issues. The existing roofing system could be retained as to reduce landfill loading, air pollution and also noise pollution. The low VOC features of the system also benefited the citizens. The super high application efficiency reduced the disturbance to the public. The excellent adhesion and chemical resistance made it ideal for regular maintenance traffic.

Porsche Workshop at Tuen Mun and Chaiwan

Situation

Porsche, one of the most famous luxury cars manufacturer, has set up showrooms and workshops all over the world to showcase their world-class craftsmanship in vehicle quality. Besides its showrooms, Porsche also had high visual and functional requirements for their aftersales service centre in Hong Kong, as they wanted to offer premium customer experience in every point of touch, even in the car maintenance and repair process.

Challenges

Chemical resistance for sure is the key factor for the client to consider.

The Porsche workshops had frequent vehicle in and out, so the chemicals emitted from it might cause erosion on the floor tile and the grout.

Solution

The client wanted the 7000m2 floor tile in the workshops to be extreme appealing and also long-lasting. Ardex EG2 was specified in the project. It was selected to cater two issues – chemical resistance and ease of application. On one hand, the epoxy-based EG2 has excellent chemical resistance which made it very suitable to be used in the workshop. On the other hand, when compared to the ordinary epoxy-based grout, EG2 has high viscosity and is extremely easy for workers to manipulate during application, even for narrow joints. It made the application process much easier. Also for the client, EG2 was an excellent option for them to keep the tile system durable while not sacrificing good tile appearance.

The Red Market Refurbishment

Situation

The Red Market in Macau is the only active wet market in Macau that are listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Convention. The building is built in 1936. As the most trafficked wet market in Macau, inside there are three busy floors of seafood, poultry, meat, vegetables and other sundries. Since it is a heritage protected by the law, routine maintenance works are necessary to keep the building’s integrity.

Challenges

In the wet market environment, the floor is always subject to heavy traffic and water. So the grouting are prone to trap moisture and dirt. The heavy traffic would also easily cause damage to the grouting, causing it to lose its original functionality.

Solution

Ardex EG2 grout was specified in the project. The robustness and the water resistance of the ARDEX EG2 are the two key factors for client to select the product. First of all, epoxy-based grouting is extremely water resistance when compared to cement-based grouting. This further minimize the risk of water leakage to the below level. Also, due to its high stain resistance properties, it could virtually eliminates common stains and dirt pick up. EG2 also has excellent abrasion resistance thanks to its high compressive strength, making it perfect for high traffic areas.
