Challenge

To have a complete re-roofing of a 24-hour operation building without noise nuisance.

Situation

Existing waterproofing system was found aged and a number of waterproofing seepage have been noted. The said building is a headquarter of a radio station. There are a number of radio channels being on-air non-stop everyday, all round 24 hours.

Solution

Sheltercoat 157 PU spray applied membrane system is capable to be applied directly on the existing roof concrete tile, concrete surface or metal surface without removal.

Due to this application method, there will be no noise disturbance and waste material from the site, which is also an environmental friendly re-roofing solution.

Mallory Street Re-development

The “Green House” is located in Mallory Street Wanchai since 1920’s. In recent years it has been revitalized into Comix Home Base. During the renovation, ARDEX BUTYNOL waterproofing membrance perfectly combines the twin-tube roof tile design of the building. While the original appearance of the roof is preserved, waterproofing performance of the heritage building is restored as well.

Disneyland Hollywood Restaurant

Disney Hong Kong invited ARDEX Hong Kong to investigate the conditions of their reconstituted stone floor tiles in the Hollywood Restaurant. They kept on rectifying those defective floor tiles every 4 to 6 months. They did a number of tests which resulted that the waterproofing membrane was performed well.

After investigation by ARDEX, we shared with the client that the defects were mainly caused by the moisture rising from screed, tile adhesive and as  well the grout.

We proposed the whole flooring system with our ARDURAPID™ formulation which means the material would be dried by chemical reaction but NOT evaporation.

Therefore, the newly installed floor tiles will not be affected by the rising moisture anymore.

Hong Kong Baptist Hospital

Baptish Hospital was planning to renovate an operation room on the basement floor. The client required a super flat flooring finishing and at the same time, there was a very high humidity at the substrate during the site working period.

We proposed our ARDEX WPM300 as a damp proof membrane and ARDEX K15 as the super flat self-levelling compound. Final floor finishing to be rubber flooring sheet.

This ARDEX Engineered Solution not only solve the problem at this site situation, it also speed up the floor installing work by 3 days.

SOGO Department Store Renovation

In early 2010, SOGO, one of the biggest department store in Hong Kong, was planning for a large scale renovation.

One of the main scope was the replacement work of existing flooring. SOGO was looking for a reliable and long term total solution for the whole flooring system.

The first ARDEX proposal and the mock-up on-site were completed and adopted by SOGO in November 2010. Materials named ARDEX A35, ARDEX S16 and ARDEX MG became a rapid-set and effloressence-free solution for the stone flooring installation work in our projects.

In around 20 month-work, over 7,000m² renovated floor area has been completed by this ARDEX Stone Floor System.

After the work has been successfully completed, SOGO issued an acknowledge letter to ARDEX in September 2012. Special thanks to your Technical Manager and looking forward to work with ARDEX again.

Lane Crawford Head Office Renovation

Situation
Lane Crawford (Hong Kong) Limited planned to renovate its Head Office, show rooms and studio with total area over 13,000m² at the One Island South. The client is looking for a natural style, easy maintenance and durable floor finishing.

Solution
ARDEX WPM300 is a water based epoxy primer. It reinforced the substrate surface and can prevent rising moisture.
ARDEX K320 is a high early strength wear-resistant self-levelling topping. Its natural cement appearance provided a seamless and flat surface.
ARDEX R50A is a one step water based sealer, its non-yellowing film is tough, glossy and chemical resistant.

Midfield Concourse, Hong Kong International Airport

Situation
Spending HK$10-billion dollar and four years development, Midfield concourse was launched providing full service
on 31st March 2016. To enhance handling capacity of passengers per annum and increase parking stands for both
passengers and cargo operation, midfield development implemented which located at the west of Terminal 1 and
between the two existing runways. In addition, this concourse incorporated a wide range of green initiatives, such as
installation of one of the largest arrays of rooftop solar panels in Hong Kong.

Solution
ARDEX took a part in this project, as well as be responsible for rooftop waterproofing system and flooring system.
As the midfield concourse located at Chek Lap Kok, an island always being affected by the climate easily, it required
high protective to UV and weather resistance building materials being used to contribute the rooftop waterproofing
system.
A stronger adhesion attached to metal is vital to provide the excellent and stable system. With 13,000sqm rooftop,
ARDEX suggested the project featured with ARDEX Butynol Roofing membrane, ARDEX WA 98 Butynol Adhesive and
ARDEX Butynol Seam Tape to constitute waterproofing rooftop system.
ARDEX Butynol was applied with its excellent aging resistance from heat and sunlight and extremely strong with
long life and versatile. Butynol is a synthetic rubber by combining the petroleum gases isobutylene and isoprene
at the extremely low temperature of -100°C with excellent gas impermeability and toughness and remains flexible
at low temperature. With the use of the designated ARDEX WA 98, specially developed high performance roofing
contact adhesive, there is the strong bonding between butynol membrane and roofing substrate. It is convenient and
economical spraying, combined with its long tack life; make it ideal for bonding large areas. Between each 1.4m width
and 17.86m sheet membrane, ARDEX seam tape is the medium to fuse the sheet membranes together.
